Director of Commercial Construction & Business Development

Our recruiting firm has partnered with a growing commercial construction and remodeling company in Waukesha, Wisconsin, seeking a Director of Commercial Construction & Business Development to lead operations, drive strategic growth, and serve as the senior construction leader for the organization.

With a strong project pipeline and ambitious growth plans, the company is looking for a proven commercial construction executive who can lead project execution, develop client relationships, and build a scalable operation capable of supporting continued expansion.

The Director of Commercial Construction & Business Development will serve as the senior leader and subject matter expert for the company's commercial construction division.

This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of commercial construction operations while driving new business development and market growth. This is a highly visible leadership position that combines:

  • Commercial construction operations leadership
  • Business development and relationship management
  • Financial oversight and P&L accountability
  • Team development and organizational growth

The Director will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably, and at the highest level of quality while expanding the company's commercial presence throughout the market.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading all commercial construction operations for the Waukesha market
  • Serving as the company's primary subject matter expert for commercial remodeling, renovation, reconstruction, and tenant improvement projects
  • Overseeing project execution from preconstruction through closeout
  • Ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and at expected quality standards
  • Establishing and maintaining operational processes that support scalable growth
  • Driving accountability across project teams and field operations
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, and field personnel
  • Building a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement
  • Assisting with hiring, onboarding, and developing construction talent
  • Creating leadership succession and growth opportunities within the department
  • Maintaining full P&L responsibility for the commercial construction division
  • Overseeing budgeting, forecasting, project profitability, and financial performance
  • Monitoring gross margins and implementing strategies to improve profitability
  • Ensuring accurate project financial reporting and forecasting
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with property managers, commercial real estate professionals, brokers, facility managers, building owners, and commercial clients
  • Identifying new project opportunities and strategic partnerships
  • Participating in networking events, industry associations, and business development activities
  • Supporting achievement of annual commercial revenue growth targets

Required qualifications include:

  • 10+ years of commercial construction leadership experience
  • Experience leading commercial remodeling, renovation, reconstruction, tenant improvement, or commercial build-out projects
  • Previous experience as a Director of Construction, Operations Manager, Senior Project Manager, Construction Executive, or similar leadership role
  • Proven experience managing Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction operations, scheduling, estimating, subcontractor management, and project execution
  • Demonstrated business development and client relationship management experience
  • Strong financial acumen with P&L ownership experience
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience within restoration, reconstruction, or insurance-related commercial construction environments
  • Existing relationships within the Wisconsin commercial construction market
  • Experience scaling construction operations and implementing operational processes
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field

Compensation & benefits include:

  • Base Salary: $115,000 - $140,000
  • Performance-based bonus opportunity tied to profitability and growth
  • Company vehicle
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Executive leadership opportunity with significant influence on company growth

The ideal candidate is a commercial construction leader who has successfully managed complex projects, developed strong client relationships, and built high-performing teams. They are equally comfortable walking a job site, reviewing project financials, mentoring project managers, and meeting with prospective clients.

This is not a sales leadership role that supports construction. This is a commercial construction leadership role that also drives business development and growth.

If you are passionate about leading construction operations, developing people, building client relationships, and helping grow a thriving commercial construction business, we'd love to speak with you.
